The Gentle Vision Shaping System uses specially designed vision retainer lenses to gently and gradually reshape the front surface of the eye (the cornea) to eliminate or reduce nearsightedness (myopia) or astigmatism. The principle is similar to the use of a dental retainer used by an orthodontist to realign crooked teeth. The vision during the day is normal after wearing the vision retainer at nighttime.
Special measurements are taken of the surface and computer software is used to formulate a custom shaped vision retainer that works by reshaping the cornea. The wearing of the vision retainers at night are important to accomplish the correct vision for the daytime.
GVSS is very safe when monitored by an eyecare professional and the patient follows instruction on the wearing, care and maintenance of the vision retainers. Please call the office (281-496-1635) for more information about the cost and the materials required. We recommend an initial consult visit with Dr. Hart to determine the eligibility for GVSS (corneal reshaping or ortho-k).
